Facing Certain Death

On Top of the World
On Top of the World

There isn’t much that I’m afraid of. Outside of San Francisco, there is an amusement park called Great America that has a ride called DropZone.  Basically you are brought up 207 ft in the air and then free fall almost to the bottom and suddenly stop. While I’m buckling myself in the seat, lifted and then suspended in air, I imagine that the ride will malfunction and crash into the ground. Some say I’m sick, but I like to think that I’m more of a thrill seeker.

Well this weekend I went to the top of the tallest building in the U.S., seventh in the world, formerly known as the Sears Tower and now named the Willis Tower. 103 floors high, 1,353 feet (412 m), I stepped out of the tower’s steel and glass structure that protrudes out of the building looking straight down. Most people would be scared shitless, but I was having the time of my life. If you are ever in Chicago, you need to step into the glass box and see if you are a thrill seeker.

  1. I go to Chicago annually, but would not pay to get into a glass box. I much prefer to spend my money to be with my masseur whose apartment looks out on the lake. Risky but he won’t penetrate. He is great, with a doorman.
