Keep Calm and Carry On

Keep Calm and Carry On

My friend Hal, who I’ve known for a long time, said that just because I live a minimalist lifestyle doesn’t mean I have to live in a completely empty home. So Hal surprised me with a rug; not just any rug but one that really has meaning to me. You see, I’m not into material things; rather I gravitate towards things that have sentimental value.

The rug says, “Keep Calm and Carry On”. It was taken from a poster that the Ministry of Information in England produced in 1939 during WWII, to raise the moral of the public in case they were invaded. Even though 2.5 million were printed, it was never used. The poster was rediscovered in 2000 and now it is used on a wide variety of decorative products, like my rug.

The reason it has meaning to me is due to its simple but powerful message. I take it to mean, “When everything seems to be going crazy in your life and it is getting out of control, just keep calm and carry on. With time you will realize that this too will pass and life continues.” Now if I can only get PJ to stay off of it with his muddy paws, I would be even happier.
