It’s my first New Year away from California. In my family, it’s been a tradition to light a roll of firecrackers at the stroke of midnight to celebrate the New Year. When the firecrackers are exploding, you can hear firecrackers from other family in the neighborhood. Given the fact that I was raised in a Vietnamese community, it was very common way to celebrate.
This year, I don’t think it’s going to happen in Chicago. If I lit some firecrackers, my neighbors would think there’s gun shoots or think I should get arrested, after all Chicago homicide rate is high. My plan this year to light some candles and chill by the fireplace. Happy New Year!
