I’m a week out from my first powerlifting competition and I’ve been on a strict diet and training routine for the past month. Unlike the bodybuilding shows I have competed in before this is much tougher to prepare for. In bodybuilding you want to show up to the competition looking ripped – but all the guys you see on stage have basically been starving themselves the week before the show to look as lean as possible. Backstage isn’t very glamorous, everyone’s muscles are cramping and everyone is pretty hangry, if you asked any of us to bench 400 pounds we would just pass out on the spot from exhaustion.
Powerlifting is tough because I have to weigh in at no more than a very specific weight in order to compete in my desired bracket. However, I can’t just starve myself the week before competition to make weight, because then I’ll deplete my muscles and lose all my strength – strength I need to win! That’s why I have to be more aware than ever of everything I eat to make sure I stay at my goal weight without losing any strength. Tough work, but I’m hoping it pays off with a big win. Wish me luck!
I’m not sure what makes a winner then, the guy who can lift most with the least body weight? I wish you that all that discipline pays off big time! And you already broke your own personal records in this new area, which is awesome! Good luck!

Talk the the Titan (Mike O’Hearn). He knows everything about powerlifting naturally.
I wanted to wish you Happy Easter and good luck to the powerlifting competition. I can’t wait to see future installment.

Yeah, that’s what every lifter wants to hear.
Keep fighting for the competition. All the bes!
