A new service from Taiwan offers worldwide viewers access to a wealth of LGBT shorts, feature films, original content and tv series with a wide offering of Asian material.
According to their website, GagaOOLaLa’s mission is:
Bringing LGBTQ stories from around the world to you, wherever you are, whenever you want.
‘Gagaoolala – Find YourStory’ is the one and only LGBTQ-focused online streaming service in Southeast Asia.
Provided by Portico Media, founder of the Taiwan International Queer Film Festival (TIQFF) and Queermosa Awards, GagaOOLala is Portico Media’s latest effort to share LGBTQ stories from around the world with a wider audience.
There are dozens of films and series covering independents, studio films, erotic stories, documentaries, broadcast series, and short festival entries. The focus is on Asia, but LGBT festival gay films from around the world are included as well. There is a free registration option that allows you to watch their limited free library, but to unlock the full website, a streaming subscription (US $6.99/month) allows unlimited viewing on computers and mobile devices. IOS and Android devices are both supported.
Although the breadth of material is great, GagaOOLala does not appear to be totally perfected and foolproof yet. Several ratings from Google Play Store mention problems with membership and using the app, but the service’s owners at Portico Media seem responsive and ready to deal with any questions or difficulties. Might be worth a try for a month or two of lockdown entertainment?
Here are trailers for a few of the award-winning festival features available, taken from the site’s YouTube channel.
